A philosophy of working simply and efficiently
The most interesting part of the ‘Nebbiolo Prima’ event were the visits to wineries that organizers ‘forced’ us to make. The truth be told, after tasting over 100 Nebbiolo in the morning not many of us had a great desire to see some wine cellars. I always have a good time and am not a demanding person and prefer to go where there are fewer of my colleagues. This has often led me to make interesting discoveries.
This year again we visited the Agricola Molino estate. Molino is a common surname in the Langhe and the estate is located in Treiso, in the area of Barbaresco. The winery has been run since the end of the 1980s by brothers Tommaso, Franco and Dario Molino and it has shifted gears in recent years thanks to the involvement of the new generation and two young friends who decided to opt for an alternative to going to university. Marco Molino, the owner’s son, and Jens, who has a surname with too many consonants, have clear, interesting and innovative ideas for the winery, above all regarding the size of the barrels and types of wood used to make them.
Jens pays great attention to the 12 hectares of vineyards situated in various locations in the area, including 2.5 hectares in Castiglion Tinella in the province of Asti. Their production is quite vast with two Barbaresco, Teorema and Ausario, selections made with grapes from the old vines, along with Barbera, Chardonnay, a Classic Arneis, Dolcetto and Moscato. During our visit we tasted two dry white wines that were quite interesting, the product of a method that promises well for the future of the estate, along with the two Barbaresco.
