Bordeaux wines yesterday and today: mature Cabernet (3)

While Merlot wines, with few exceptions, tend to lose their fruity component and, in part, their expressive force, roundness and softness after a couple of decades, Cabernet and Bordeaux blends (of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot) seem to have an almost supernatural capacity to improve over time. However, do not be fooled, this does not mean these wines are not ‘delicate’ in the seraphic way they age perfectly in the bottle. And because they are extremely balanced wines, the classic conditions for aging need to be followed rigorously.
The following wines have aged well over 30 years.
