The Blanc de Blancs version of Lanson Extra Age

The Lanson Extra Age Champagne line has been enriched with a Blanc de Blancs version, a very elegant and creamy multi-vintage cuvée de prestige – 2004, 2005 and 2006 – produced in a limited edition.

Maison Lanson has seen many changes in the last decade but these were evolutions based on solid roots and people of value who knew what they were doing. The changes were the result of a stylistic vision and in-depth experimentation and included the introduction of a moderate use of barrels in the winery to enhance the complexity of some of the cuvée. This has produced excellent results in regard to quality and allowed the Maison to face new and important challenges, including the switch to organic farming methods, the grapes from which were used for this production.

After celebrating the 250th anniversary of its foundation in 1760, Maison Lanson decided to complete their Extra Age line by creating a Rosé version and a Blanc de Blancs one. The latter is a limited-edition, multi-vintage cuvée de prestige that has demonstrated how time – with an additional 10 years of aging – can bring out the best from the Maison’s Grand and Premier Cru Chardonnay. It is a Champagne that was created as a homage to years that exalted Chardonnay grapes the most, making them complementary and establishing a new harmony.

This was a new example of a savoir-faire that begins without allowing malolactic fermentation, a fundamental step to ensure the wine has a long life, according to Jean-Paul Gandon (who invented the wine) first and now Hervé Dantan, who is the Maison’s chef de caves and follows in his footsteps. Extra Age, even with this Blanc de Blancs version, has become a symbol of complexity derived from a skill in dealing with time and, all things considered, it is also a further celebration of the art of blending on which Champagne is based.
