Bellavista Vendemmia Brut 2011 for Madama Butterfly

The opening of the opera season at Milan’s Teatro alla Scala was a great success capped with 13 minutes of applause at the end. Puccini’s Madama Butterfly was conducted by Maestro Riccardo Chailly and directed by Alvis Hermanis with Maria Josè Siri in the lead role. Aside from being a cultural and social event, it was also a wine one given that Bellavista has been the Milan theatre’s partner for the past 12 years and Franciacorta is the official wine for the premiere night.

A couple of days before opening night, Francesca Moretti, who has been in charge of the Franciacorta winery for a few years now, presented at the Iyo restaurant their latest cuvée which is dedicated to the Premiere at La Scala. It was a Franciacorta Bellavista Selezione Vendemmia Brut 2011 which for the occasion had a cherry blossom on the packaging to give it an oriental touch in honor of Madama Butterfly. “With this vintage we celebrate the rapport that has connected us with Teatro alla Scala since 2004, a deep relationship which for us represents a motive for pride and inspiration. We share, in fact, the universal values that are expressed in this theatre and, in particular, a mentality of striving for excellence, to always seek to do better and achieve one’s full potential and at times even challenge the concept of time and space”.

Bellavista Vendemmia Brut 2011 Teatro alla Scala – Selezione Madama Butterfly has the seal of the Teatro on it but it also encompasses the philosophy of Bellavista which in recent years has modernized and demonstrated a capacity to reinvent its own personal tradition, to become more contemporary without betraying its original roots. A total of 147 different selections were used for this Franciacorta, the best Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes to face the test of time, a bit the way Puccini’s opera has and today is presented as an elegant, modern interpretation of a great classic.
