The different versions of Fiano d’Avellino Villa Raiano

Villa Raiano is the Irpinia farm of the Basso family where they are committed to demonstrating how each of their Fiano reflects the differences of the vineyard parcels.
Irpinia is a cool and fertile land, one of the loveliest places in Italy, where alternating mountains and hills, rivers and streams, are more than enough to satisfy the needs of travelers in search of the beauty of nature and the quality of life, attracted also by the excellence of typical territorial products. The Basso family of San Michele di Serino knows this and for generations have been engaged in farming, producing and marketing olive oil. They believe so much in their land that, in 1966, they decided to add wine to their successful agricultural production and created the Villa Raiano winery.
Today, Villa Raiano is run by the young cousins Federico and Brunella who follow in the footsteps of their parents when it comes to enhancing quality and have focused on producing wines with grapes from individual vineyard parcels. This in order to highlight their typical, recognizable characteristics and nuances, which come out when tasting the wines.
From the 24 hectares of vineyards they have spread out in the best Irpinia growing areas, Villa Raiano makes wine with grapes grown in a clay-chalky soil of volcanic origin and which benefits from sharp diurnal temperature variations. Seven of these hectares are dedicated to cultivating Fiano grapes, divided between the towns of Motefredane, which sits at an altitude of 350m above sea level, and Lapio, at 450m ASL, which respectively produce Fiano Alimanta and Fiano Ventidue. While the varietal is the same, they have particular characteristics, while sharing the common traits in regard to propensity to age and drinkability. Below some wines and vintages worth tasting.
