The Popphof estate is in Marlengo, near Merano, and has belonged to the Menz family since 1722. The Sauvignon is made in stainless steel and sits on the lees until March. The wine has a pale, straw-yellow color with green reflections and a bouquet of prune, grapefruit, white flowers and medicinal herbs. The mouthfeel is decidedly mineral and leans a bit towards hard notes while at the center of the mouth it is not that persistent and is, in fact, empty. The warmer it became the better it got but, also considering that 2014 was not a great year, it never developed volume and was quite thin.
The wine benefitted from the delicate spiciness of the scallops with daikon and lime
