A blend of Touriga Macional, Touriga Franc, Sousão and Tinta Roriz grapes. Fermentation is arrested through the addition of distilled wine and the unfiltered blend then ages in large barrels for four years. The wine has an opaque, ruby color with garnet reflections while the bouquet is an explosion of dark fruit (perhaps more black currant than blackberry), dark chocolate, dark tobacco and graphite. The mouthfeel is quite defined with the alcohol component kept under control and the sweetness almost disappearing after the attack. The finish is very long, bold and ‘dark’, with sensations of graphite and licorice, but not drying (unlike Vintage Port). Unfiltered LBV Port improves with bottle aging but I suggest you try this one now keeping the temperature low, no more than 14°C, and pairing it with fresh, red fruit. 25 euros well-spent. Imported by Cuzziol.
