A deep and shiny ruby-prune color with a prune/garnet edge. The bouquet is very balsamic, almost like a Coonawarra Cabernet, with distinct aromas of sweet mint and eucalyptus followed by notes of ash on a ‘carpet’ of black cherry. The vintage stood out in the mouthfeel with slightly rustic tannins typical of 1997. The mouthfeel is bold and juicy but less broad than it could be. While one could expect a greater tannic sweetness from a 20-year-old Amarone, this is still a great wine.
