A monumental Schiava. From a vineyard that is over 80 years old and produces a wine that never ceases to amaze. Some time ago I took part in a vertical tasting that began with a 1976 (very good) and left a host of wine experts in awe. The product of an exceptional season weatherwise, this wine is initially a little closed, almost reluctant. But then the fireworks begin: blueberry, graphite and spices open the way for a taste that is still severe but full and fragrant, where the tannins are ripe and delicate and the progression imperative. The finish is dynamic, explosive and proclaims how this wine has a long life ahead of it.
