Peperosa Cesarini Sartori, the pink side of Umbria

Peperosa 2016 is a rosé from Umbria made from Sangiovese that shines a spotlight on the Cesarini Sartori winery.
The unfortunate name of the area, Bastardo, is used in the name of the estate’s standard-bearer wine, RossoBastardo, and it is not clear whether this was out of impertinence or presumption. What is clear is that this rosé made from Sangiovese, despite its high alcoholic content (14.5%), is a winner.
The estate is in Gualdo Cattaneo, in the heart of Italy and not far from Montefalco. This is where the engineer Luciano Cesarini, an internationally renowned expert in energy systems, decided to invest not too many years ago.
The result is a line of wines that deserve to be discovered, even if the Sagrantino already has its admirers, and this rosé indicates an apparent style, even if the estate’s website is somewhat confusing.
