Colline Teramane bottiglie coperte

The preview organized by the Consorzio di Tutela Vini Colline Teramane showed how Montepulciano d'Abruzzo in this area has that "quid" that allowed it to obtain the Docg.

The Consorzio di Tutela Vini Colline Teramane is turning 20, years in which the popularization of local wine production has been a cultural act, as a deepening of the history and traditions of a portion of Abruzzo where wine is intertwined with nature, man and time.

The Consortium, currently chaired by Enrico Cerulli Irelli, aims to popularize that large handkerchief of land enclosed between the Gran Sasso massif and the Adriatic Sea, with sea breezes and mountain air creating a microclimate particularly favorable to grapes, while the soils are clay-loamy in nature.

A zoning study carried out by the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Teramo in collaboration with the Consorzio Colline Teramane revealed the great wine vocation of the Colline Teramane, so much so that since 2003 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo has been awarded DOCG status.

The Colline Teramane are a territory to be discovered, with expanses of vineyards for a total planted area of 172 hectares, with an annual production of about 600 thousand bottles, where experimentation and research are carried out to give finesse and elegance to the wines, with more than 70 percent of the wineries operating in organic, integrated pest management and biodynamic.

The incisive character of the Montepulciano grape is recognizable in the wines of the Teramo Hills, tracing a style that has longevity as a characteristic, expressed in wines with a few years of aging, while in the young ones the freshness and red fruit aromas offer streamlined and intense sips, just as there is a clear difference between those produced on the coast, with brackish references, compared to those closer to the Apennines, which give saline tones and fullness to the taste.

Particularly relevant in the tastings of the 38 samples were the productions of the Controguerra Doc, which includes the hilly areas of only five municipalities in the upper Teramo area: Controguerra, Torano Nuovo, Ancorano, Corropoli and Colonnella, with a taste-olfactory coherence and a common thread among the wines (despite completely different processing and maturation methods ) that raises the production bar.

Below are the best tastings of the Consorzio di Tutela Vini Colline Teramane preview.
