Graf de la Tour Villa Russiz, a lovely Collio Merlot

Even after almost 14 years, Graf de la Tour 2004 Villa Russiz remains an elegant wine with an amazing persistence.
Villa Russiz has been a consolidated institution in Friuli for almost 150 years. It is managed by the foundation of the same name as is the Istituto Cerruti. Situated at the heart of the Collio DOC appellation, Villa Russiz enjoys a privileged microclimate created by the protection of the nearby Alps and benefitting from air from the Adriatic Sea.
All the vineyards sit at an altitude of between 100 and 350m above sea level and the soil is rich in mineral deposits. A dozen or so types of wine are produced, for a total of over 200,000 bottles, and all are distinguished by a quest for quality tied to the territory they originate from.
