This single-grape Merlot is already enjoyable when it just comes out (some 20,000 bottles produced a year) but after 14 years this bottle is even better. It is the product of completely destemming the grapes that then ferment and macerate for 15 days before maturing in oak barrels for 12-15 months. The wine then ages first in a vat and then in the bottle for five months.
The color has not diminished at all and remains a warm and luminous ruby. The aroma is very fine with notes of ripe but not cooked fruit, light hints of wood and spice sensations. But the best is yet to come because the mouthfeel is full and warm with very fine tannins and an amazing persistence that, if possible, makes the wine even more elegant and fine to the point of leaving you thunderstruck. A truly wonderful Merlot.
A suggestion: open the bottle well ahead of time to get the best from the glass.
