Cannonau Berteru, nothing else from Cantina Gungui

Luca Gungui’s tiny estate in the area of Mamoiada produces only one wine: Cannonau di Sardegna Berteru that is available both as a vintage and a reserve wine and its first year, 2015, hit the bullseye.
Cantina Gungui is situated in Mamoiada, practically at the heart of Sardinia, only just a tad to the northeast. It is far from the sea and the vineyards sit at a high altitude ranging from 650 to 720m above sea level.
Luca is a bit of a character and his story is similar to that of other young winemakers who are producing quality wine. He got his degree in law and had a good office job in the city but he almost immediately got tired of it and easily surrendered to the strong allure of his family’s tiny winemaking estate.
He produces 4,000 liters of base Cannonau wine and 1,000 liters of the reserve version and nothing else. In 2015 he bottled his first vintage and here we look at the Riserva.
