Didacus: Fiocco bianco in casa Planeta

Didacus in Latin, Diego in Italian and Spanish, originally meant erudite, cultured. Today it is also the name of a white wine made from Chardonnay grapes and dedicated to Diego Planeta, a key figure in the rebirth of winemaking in Sicily, a founding father of the Settesoli wine cooperative and the prestigious family estate that bears his name.

Didacus is made only with the Chardonnay grapes grown in the district of Menfi with a low yield of just over one kilogram per vine or less than 4,000kg per hectare. The wine made its debut with vintage 2014 to mark the 20th anniversary of Planeta’s first Chardonnay in 1994. It also commemorated what Diego, his children and grandchildren have achieved in those two decades, creating one of the most important wine producing realities in Italy and literally rehabilitating the image of Sicilian wines in the word. No easy task.

Menfi Chardonnay Didacus 2014 is the best wine to come out under the Planeta signature. It is also the most expensive and the one produced in the smallest quantity, less than 6,000 bottles. But above all it is a very great and surprising wine which will efficiently stand the test of time and age with class and vigor.
