A Nordic flavor

I had the opportunity of re-tasting a wine from Nanni Nossing, an enterprising Alto Adige producer, during a dinner at the new Salsamenteria Ercoli delicatessen-bistro in Rome’s Parioli neighborhood. The dining room was walled with wines and here I rediscovered the Nordic flavor is his wine.
Nanni Nossing is from a family of famers and sold his grapes to a wine cooperative up until 1999, when he decided to build his own winery and make his own wine. The estate is located in the Valle Isarco and its some six hectares of vineyards are planted with the white grapes native to the area like Kerner, the best known, Sylvaner, Veltliner and Muller Thurgau.
