Ten years old and not showing it: Beyond the Clouds 2008
With her white Beyond the Clouds 2008, producer Elena Walch has demonstrated how white wines in Alto Adige can have an extremely long lifespan.
I am lucky to have a fairly well-stocked wine cellar and I used to keep a list of all the wines it contained. However, I later learned that I enjoyed more puttering around the cellar to decide what wine I wanted to drink and so the list disappeared. A while ago I was going just that when I came across this somewhat old bottle that I had forgotten I had and about which Daniele Cernilli has spoken very highly of. It was time to drink it.
Elena Walch needs no introduction. In Alto Adige she has been a reference point for a long time and her wines are very well-known and appreciated. She has some wonderful vineyards between Termeno and Caldaro and those who know Alto Adige and wine know this is a great winegrowing area.
