Casa Setaro’s roots in Vesuvius

Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio Don Vincenzo Riserva DOC 2014 Casa Setaro is a wine that expresses the terroir from which it obtains its intensity and elegance.

Casa Setaro is a virtuous example of how a small, family winery can produce quality wine that expresses the terroir. It is a feather in the cap not only of the area of Vesuvius but the whole region of Campania. The winery is situated in Trecase, a small and fertile town with vast biodiversity at the feet of Vesuvius and near its National Park.

Massimo Setaro, the winery’s current owner, makes it clear that this is more of a family estate than a business. It is a wine estate (the winery is part of the home) that solidly has its roots in ten hectares of centuries-old vineyards of Caprettone, Falanghina, Piedirosso and Aglianico. The vines are trained using the ancient pergola vesuviana method and grow in a lava soil rich in potassium and microelements composed of lapillus and sand. This has allowed the vines to remain ungrafted, including the Caprettone varietal, a biotype in the past confused with Coda di Volpe which Massimo has the merit of having given value to.

Among the wines they produce I would single out the very good Falanghina Campanelle, the grapes for which grow on a site overlooking the tip of the Sorrento Peninsula, and Lacryma Christi Riserva Don Vincenzo, a wine that expresses the terroir from which it obtains its intensity and elegance.
