This was another difficult year and not even Romano could perform miracles. The color is very dark without any concessions, while the aroma has problems focusing and never offers those ‘lucid’ scents the winery’s best bottles have. The fruit is very sweet yet at times lacks intensity. The flavor has a meaty attack of prune puree (another estate trademark) but the tannins tend to be drying despite a structure that is, as always, comparable only to the great reds of the New World. I have no idea whether one should drink this now or wait some more. Romano reminded us how when this wine reached the market it divided qualified critics. It’s unfortunate that we have to agree with the more severe ones.
