In 2004, brothers Massimiliano and Matteo Brambilla embarked on an extremely targeted project to “make wine with scientists”. First they bought 29 hectares of vineyards, with vines between 18 and 72 years of age that sit at an altitude 350m above sea level in Santa Maria della Versa, and then they turned to the university world and, in particular, Professor Leonardo Valenti to begin producing wine. Their estate immediately became a research laboratory with the micro and meso-vinifications of 40 clones of Pinot Nero. Verve Extra Brut is a single-grape Pinot Nero made only in stainless steel that after 48 months on the lees ages for an equal period in the bottle. The result is a sparkling wine with an evolved aromatic profile with notes of dried fruit and thyme, gingerbread and red apple, all of which are present in the distinct flavor where the fruit does not give way but enriches the spice and brings out intense iodine sensations, with a relaxed persistence that leads to a finish upheld by the precise and pressing acidity.
