This bottle made it clear that Vigna Pedale should be drunk when it is around ten years old and not before. The color and aroma are splendid, deep and complex and after an initial note of new wood (rum/coconut), the bouquet opens with sensations of fruit (crushed prune), the land (cacao beans and carob) and a very controlled aging (an oxidized hint of tamarind). The attack of the mouthfeel is meaty and the tannins severe, the “Nordic” trait of Nero di Troia. The balsamic finish has an aftertaste of cola and carob. This vintage is the best compromise between drinkability, structure and territory, where both the hills and the heat can be felt. Vigna Pedale assumes its Mediterranean characteristics only with aging but its tannins always retain their pleasing austerity. A splendid wine with a quality/price ratio that is hard to believe.
