Vigna dell Volpi is the version of the same wine that has been aged in wood (eight months in oak barrels). It is dedicated to the animals (foxes) that are the most present in the area due to the vineyard’s vicinity to the Astroni natural park, which has always been a hunting reserve. The wood in no way inhibits the wine’s expression but adds a touch of meatiness and, above all, amplifies the more mineral components in the aroma. Its color and appearance are similar to the 2012 stock wine although the aroma opens a little darker and the mouthfeel is even smokier (like from a hot stove or something like that). The tannins keep the wine compact, while the vinosity and personality are off the scale and the aftertaste irony, floral and bitter, tenacious to say the least.
