There is a reason why this is considered to be a legend in the glass. It has a wonderful, golden color and while the texture is dense, it is not oily when going into the glass. The originality of the bouquet is amazing and initially impossible to decipher due to the cacophony of aromas. With breathing the fog lifts and clear scents emerge of graphite and a touch of kerosene that uphold a citrusy and balsamic mass. Also present are scents of star anise (that I have never found in a Riesling) and almost marine-like iodine notes. The flavor explodes into a thousand fragments, while the mouthfeel is surprisingly fresh considering the abundant sweetness. Nothing is out of place and the unusual persistence has a Teutonic precision that leaves the glass impregnated with aromas for hours.
I bought this for a few hundred euros years ago while today it would cost a few thousand.
