And here is the third champion, a wine that knows it is unique, a ‘youngster’ that entered the Bordeaux arena and looked those great giants straight in the eye. It is a wine that said to the world: so you like Cabernet? Fine, in Italy the conditions are such that not only can we make great wine from our own indigenous grapes but also using those with a French accent. There is no denying Sassicaia is a Bordeaux with a Mediterranean accent, one in which the aroma recalls the depth of our underbrush with those scents of juniper berries, all those balsamic components and the fruit notes of mulberry and blackberry, followed by those classic ones of citrus and pink grapefruit, then incense and hints of spice. The mouthfeel is velvety, broad, extended, rich without excess and always elegant. A magnificent wine that bewitches and seduces.
Because of its French charm we could say this wine is Alain Delon, the sublime one Visconti gave us in The Leopard, the Italian one. From a mythological point of view the wine is not easy to place. It is neither Hector nor Achilles but Aeneas who fled burning homeland Troy in search of a new life in Italy.
