I started off with two cases of Sassicaia 1985 that, except for two bottles opened right away, remained untouched in my cellar for almost five years. Then year by year they were consumed until I had just two bottle left and they won’t last long either. This 1985 is epic to say the least and, if conserved well, has reached its peak in quality. It is still perfectly intact, with an intense red color that continues to have some purple reflections even 20 years after the grapes were harvested. The bouquet is full of nuances, both vegetal (tobacco, cut grass and roots) and mineral. The touch of dark chocolate is outstanding as is the way breathing changes the aromas to offer countless sensorial stimulations. The mouthfeel is soft, silky, sensual and caressing. The finish is eternal, on the level of the greatest wines.
This vintage is by now only available at auctions and can cost between 1,200 and 1,500 euros and up.
