The weather this year, if possible, was even worse than the ’72 due to a very wet summer that compromised the grapes even if they did ripen sufficiently. Maceration was brief because the tannins were few both quantity and quality-wise although sufficient to withstand 18 months aging in barriques. While this Sassicaia has good character, it is not very harmonious and is definitely evolved to the nose. The unbalance between acidity and tannins in the mouthfeel is quite evident.
