A hot growing season produced a wine that was hard in youth, Giovanni recalled. Today it has a ruby-garnet color with purple reflections giving this vintage a very personal color. The bouquet is slow to open but then becomes full and stratified with notes of black truffle, slate-tar, confit citrus and sensations that vaguely recall a Barolo. The mouthfeel has a strong backbone and while the attack is sweet it becomes full with widespread tannins. The finish is not as deep as the others and is sweeter and more concentrated. Nevertheless, the wine’s ability to please is unquestioned.
