The color if this vintage was a shiny, garnet-black with walnut reflections. The aroma was not particularly precise (in the background it had a moldy woody note that compromised the wine’s drinkability) but had literally intoxicating notes of leather, cast iron, curry and dried black cherry. The mouthfeel was very sweet, rich, with a walnut flavor and a rotund finish and a persistence that was almost frightening. The aftertaste was that of leather, dried flowers, burnt wood and chestnut flour. There were no notes of oxidation. This was the only Valentini that we drank at its peak.
The wine is no longer available retail.
