Some may turn up their nose but for me it is yet another great Monfortino. For sure it does not have the tartness and boldness of the other vintages, but the hot year it came from gave it looseness and a universal ability to interpret. The color is relatively clear, the aromas fruity, almost rotund, and easy. The mouthfeel is silky, stimulating the palate and becoming almost addictive. There is none of the usual gushing acidity nor abrasive tannins found in the younger wines. This vintage will not reach the ‘normal’ age of 100 but today is already wonderfully drinkable and unique among all those of the past decade.
