This is perhaps the Monfortino vintage I have had the most of, since my grandfather filled the cellar with it because it was the year I was born. During the 1990s I opened a bottle for nine birthdays in a row. More recently a couple of bottles worked their way into some memorable tastings and as always with moving results. It still sums up all the qualities of a mature Monfortino: boldness, vigor, elegance and complexity. A diffused balsamic component remains the leitmotif along with some bewitching and seductive chocolate. The mouthfeel by now seems to have completely settled to become a very caressing drape, albeit a vigorous caress, marked by a consolidated tannic acidity. A dream wine still at its peak.
