This is what I wrote last year; ‘’…tears came down like rain, tears of joy, of emotion and of surprise. This was a bottle that had lived through the Second World War and was around when most of our fathers were born. And yet here we were tasting this unique nectar of inspired expression and masterful winemaking. The color was rather pinkish but still had intact nuances and rarely have I experienced such original sensations. It still had the same common traits of more recent vintages but everything shifted more towards an almost virginal candor of ‘the first time’. The aroma was suffused, compressed, always with those light notes of mushroom, dried flowers, bergamot and licorice. The minerality was that of a great Chablis while the acidity was still crunchy, apparently the true secret to eternal life. Its true force was its suffused balance, the finale was indescribable. Our only regret was not having tasted it some years earlier when it was at its peak, even if it still was pretty close to it.
A relic only found at an auction, where it can demand the same prices as the world’s greatest wines, be they from Bordeaux or Burgundy.
