The grapes come from the highest vineyard, a 1.5-hectare cru at an altitude of 800-1,000m above sea level, and the wine, 98% Nerello Mascalese with a 2% addition of Nerello Cappucci, ages 16-18 months in wood barrels of different sizes.
The wine has a limpid and suave attack and the aroma gracefully shifts from sensations of ripe, dark fruit to those of shiny sealing wax which is still soft and warm, before the nose explodes into a bouquet of cyclamens. The first sip is saline and fresh with a tactful mouthfeel that has a texture dense in tannins intertwined with extracts. The flavor has marasca cherry covered in dark chocolate and sprinkled with pink pepper. In the finish there is a return of cyclamen and a dominating essence of sandalwood which accompanies balsamic sensations. The boldness of the bouquet and the loveliness of the mouthfeel are surprising. Taut as a violin string, its note as acute as it is deep.
