This was the first vintage made with Sangiovese grapes selected from both the upper area of Canalicchi and, above all, the vineyards in Castelnuovo dell’Abate. The wine ages in tonneau barrels. Gioberto dedicated the wine to himself and has artist Simona Stanciu design the label.
The wine was so excellent it brought a smile to my face. It has a concentrated ruby color and the nose is pure bliss with 50 nuances of fruits from cherry to yellow peach to wild strawberry. There are also some balsamic tones of eucalyptus, hints of pipe tobacco and an assortment of spices all creating a wrapping complexity. Tasting the wine comes close to godhead. The mouthfeel is rich and intense, velvety and intriguing, captivating and amazingly elegant with a very long finish. Unfortunately, the production was limited to only a few thousands bottles.
