This 2001 is excellent after 14 years in the bottle which demonstrates how the right choices were made, even if there are still some people who claim that Sangiovese should not be made using barriques. It has a nice, concentrated and deep ruby color which is a little less compact on the edge. The aroma is quite striking with its nice scents of red and dark fruits and its refreshing balsamic hint. The light note of sweet tobacco is the only concession to age along with that of orange. A smoky sensation ushers in a mouthfeel where the compact tannins are a true reference point and are nicely woven into the texture, allowing for an excellent progression and a finish of rare persistence and elegance. A true champion.
