This is their singe-grape Montepulciano made from some five hectares of vineyards with vines that are well over 40 years old and grow in a clay and sand soil with a density of around 4,000 vines per hectare. The wine matures in small barrels for 24 months and has a very dark color with shady reflections. The tannins are tight but helped along and polished by aging ten years in the bottle and are bold in the mouthfeel, which is a counterpoint to the lovely, fresh and almost graceful aromas that at the same time are voluminous and pronounced. I admit, I expected this to be good but I was truly surprised: decidedly a great bottle!
