I have no idea what Nefertiti has to do with Franciacorta (this wine does not taste of dates nor is it very 'feminine') but this Extra Brut from Vezzoli, a winery in great expansion, is really interesting. Its color has green reflections indicating a character that is anything but feminine. The aroma has captivating vegetal notes of olive with sage giving it verticality, while the fruity notes are of white melon, medlar and citrus. The floral aspect is hawthorn and the only concession towards sweet are the toasted hints of vanilla and a touch of spice. The taste is nice and full but with a lively acidity that leads to a persistent and consistent, almost pyrite mineral finish. There are few concessions to softness in this rigid wine with its high level of acidity and delicate yet substantial effervescence. The progression is good but always austere.
