Welcome to the ‘90s. The first impression is that this is a Super Tuscan! The wood is still evident to the nose (chocolate) but it is fused, perhaps too much so, with notes from bottle aging (damp earth and leather) even for a red that is almost 20 years old but those of Conero (aromatic herbs and nutmeg) come out slowly in the end. Full of extracts, the mouthfeel nevertheless maintains its dynamism with the structure of a heavyweight and rocky tannins and a finish that is not modulated. A wine that seems made with an ax but I liked it a lot. In a few years it may dry out so drink it now.
