Having sampled a 2014 for Daniele Cernilli’s Essential Guide to Italian Wines, I was curious to taste the 2013 because I am convinced that Lambrusco improves with a little aging, when the harvest allows this as was the case with this year.
The wine has an exuberant, purple effervescence and aromas that are decidedly fruity and rich in wild berries, blackberry and raspberry, as well as some sensations of wild violets that enrich and embellish the bouquet. The mouthfeel seems severe due to its bold structure but in reality is tasty and robust thanks to a superlative acidic-tannic balance and a pleasing and discreet effervesce. The wine must be served cool but not cold and pairs well with the rich local or regional cuisine.
