The color is dark and shiny and the bouquet is initially mute. The aromas, in fact, take a lot of time to open before revealing fine scents of sage, laurel, dark chocolate and violet. The attack of the mouthfeel is juicy ahead of bold tannins that connect with the acidity, as opposed to the 1993 in which the acidity tends to be isolated. While severe, the flavor is not harsh and the finish is austere. The wine’s structural traits, here as with the other vintages, are bold and with breathing it seems inconceivable that this is a wine that in its best vintages reaches its peak after 20-30 years.
