A necessary comparison because Clos de Beze is the most elegant and explosive Chambertin and thus an excellent yardstick to compare absolute values. It has an intense, bright red color and while the aroma is not too intense it is extremely assorted, a text book for the study of scents. The aristocratic bouquet has notes of black cherry jam and fleeting ones of black cherry and tanned leather, cinnamon and ginger. The mouthfeel is a katana sword with its pulsating and cutting acidity that acts as a counterpoint to the rich and thick tannins creating a sensation of woven linen. The persistence is very long but not endless and this young wine will express itself best when it gets older, even if it is very good today.
