Made from only Nebbiolo grapes. This is a less ‘extreme’ Monfortino, a Barolo from Serralunga that is more consistent and typical, factors that are exalted by a fine harvest like that of 2001. The wine had quite an intense garnet color and dark, deep aromas with notes of mineral and tar alongside those of licorice and raspberry. The mouthfeel was distinct, tannic, with a nice acidity ensuring that it will age well, while the finish was very long with a slightly bitter aftertaste.
