Calderara Sottana 2004

The wine is made from 98% Nerello Mascalese grapes and 2% Nerello Cappuccio from old vines. It ages for 16-18 months in French oak barriques, tonneaux and large barrels (10-30 hectoliters) 20% of which are new wood. The wine’s ruby color is a bit tired, which does not bode well, but the aroma is an array of raspberry and currant, laurel leaves and wild strawberries. The mouthfeel is silky, saline and mineral.
