An excellent version of this great Montepulciano classic. The color is densely obscure and offers no concessions. The aroma is bold, still slightly closed but with distinct fruity notes of very ripe cherry, currant, and candied citron. The spiciness from the wood is still evident but not overbearing and a few more years aging in the bottle should put everything in order. The mouthfeel is magnificent, bold, broad at the start with a significant progression and while the tannins are still a bit eager they are in no way bitter. The acidic component is very balanced and the finish is of rare richness and persistence. Despite needing to age some more this is an excellent version of Asinone.
