Made from Syrah grapes with a small addition of Viogner. The wine ages in small and medium-sized barrels, 15% of which are new and the rest being used for the eighth time. It has a bright, medium ruby color with an intense and incredibly sharp aroma that is a broadside of pink pepper on a background of roselle and oriental spice. The intricacy of the bouquet is of the highest level imaginable. The attack of the mouthfeel is exceptional with tannins that almost seem like extracts while the body is ‘only’ medium. The finish is spicy and above all distinguished by the iodine, almost like a white wine, which is typical of Côte-Rôtie and very, very persistent. If you expect a great Syrah to have dark and blood-like hues, a purée of blackberry with hematic scents and those of molasses, then look somewhere else. More than a Caravaggio this is a Monet and more than a Burgundy style this represents an authentic Côte-Rôtie style.
