The Masterclass on Prosecco, Lambrusco and other sparkling wines

Those who were thinking of a rustic tasting or one of little interest, think again: there are 6 sparkling wines awarded with the DoctorWine Seal presented in this seminar. Out of a total of 13 wine is a record!
If you ask an American or an Anglo-Saxon in general (but also a German) which are the typical Italian sparkling wines the answer will be a choral answer: the Italian bubbles par excellence are Prosecco and Lambrusco. From their worldwide fame comes the title we have given to this seminar, which in reality sees only Prosecco Superiore (the Valdobbiadene Docg one, to be precise) and not Prosecco Doc and, before arriving at Lambrusco (both classic method, therefore an exception for this type), passes through Emilia and Oltrepò with a little 'escape' to Umbria.
This is therefore a very interesting overview that allows you to discover aspects of Italian sparkling wine that are not well known but not less good (check the scores of the wines to believe it).
We start with Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Particella 232 delle Sorelle Bronca (94/100) which in its tension is a pleasant drink, elegant and different from the usual. Then the Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Grande Cuvée of the Founder Motus Vitae 2018 Bortolomiol (90/100), an agile sparkling wine, very multifaceted, with excellent flavor and long persistence, followed by the Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Tre Venti 2019 Zardetto (92/100), crispy and delicately fruity fresh length. Then it is the turn of the Grave di Stecca 2015 Nino Franco (96/100). Technically it is not a Prosecco, as it does not claim the denomination, but it is still produced with pure glera grapes from a single vineyard near the village of Valdobbiadene. It is taut yet very creamy and has won our special prize as the best single-grape glera wine. Then we move on to Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore di Cartizze La Rivetta 2019 Villa Sandi (95/100): we are faced with one of the largest Cartizze, creamy in the mouth and enveloping, with a dosage in perfect balance with the flavor.
At this point we leave the hills (Unesco heritage site) of Conegliano-Valdobbiadene and we make a trip to Emilia to find the Perlage Brut Metodo Classico of the Cantina Valtidone (89/100), an important cooperative reality of the Piacenza area, from 80% Chardonnay grapes and 20% Pinot Noir, a sparkling wine of beautiful freshness and tension proposed at a very interesting price. Remaining in the area, we move on to Il Pigro Dosaggiozero Extra Brut 2017 Romagnoli, another classic method (95/100) also from Pinot Noir 60%, Chardonnay 40%, citrus and fresh, of attractive drinkability.
Let's now take a leap into one of the historic homelands of Italian sparkling wine: the Oltrepò Pavese, and we go there with one of its most classic producers: Monsupello with the Brut Metodo Classico VSQ (94/100), 90% pinot noir with a balance of chardonnay, subtle but strong, dynamic and persistent. From here to the Oltrepò Pavese Oltrenero Brut Nature 2015 (93/100), 100% pinot noir with an elegantly energetic and linear sip, to close the area with the Oltrepò Pavese Pinot Noir Pas Dosé Cuvée dell'Angelo 2012 Castello di Cigognola (96/100), another pure pinot noir that matures on yeasts in the bottle for 72 months. A rich and elegant sparkling wine, very promising.
The outsider of this tasting comes from Umbria and is the Nerosé 60 months La Madeleine, another 100% pinot noir that is another face (95/100). Pale rosé, it is fragrant and complex, very creamy and elegant. From rosé to red with the Granconcerto Spumante Brut Rosso Metodo Classico 2018 Medici Ermete sparkling wine (95/100) produced with Lambrusco salamino grapes and bottle froth. Seductive scents and generous and perky structure. The tasting closes with another Lambrusco salamino, In Correggio Rosso Millesimato 2009 Lini 910 (96/100), awarded as the best single grape Lambrusco wine in this edition of the Guide. A sparkling wine that keeps intact the pleasantness of drinking of its type, exalting its character with great elegance.
Have you ever thought to find such high scores in a tasting that presented apparently simple types of wines? Try it to believe.
