At +9.2%, made-in-Italy investment wines remain a strategic asset for those wishing to diversify their portfolios. But which homegrown labels are worth the most? These are the best-performing Italian wines under the watchful lens of investors around the world.

Investing in wine and, in particular, in Italian wine, is now increasingly profitable. According to the Liv-ex Italy 100, a very useful index for being able to understand wine market trends, Italian labels are experiencing 9.2 percent growth. In particular, the regions boasting the best performing investment wine production are Piedmont and Tuscany.

Wine Profit, (www.wineprofit.com), an innovative hybrid reality, born in 2018 as a project within Moneysurfers (www.moneysurfers.com) and positioned somewhere between investment companies and wine merchants, reveals which Piedmont and Tuscany labels have been the most profitable in recent years, to help investors choose the best bottles to include within their fine wine collections.

What is meant by investment bottles? These are about 1% of all wine production worldwide. In addition to exceptional taste qualities, the main characteristic that decrees a fine, investment wine is its market demand, which is higher than production. This causes the bottles to begin to be in particular demand, which allows for good liquidation possibilities both in terms of price and timing.

Piedmont's best labels

The Fine Wines situation related to Piedmont is mainly concentrated in the Langhe area, an area that has continued to grow in value since 2014. Among the most highly rated wines, which have now become real must-haves in the category, we find:

  • Barolo Monfortino di Giacomo Conterno,
  • Barolo Brunate di Giuseppe Rinaldi,
  • Barolo di Bartolo Mascarello,
  • Barolo di Giuseppe Mascarello,
  • Barolo di Cav. Lorenzo Accomasso,
  • Barolo di Luciano Sandrone
  • Barolo Vigna Rionda di Ester Canale.

"The list would be very long and we believe that, as of today, research on this territory requires us to find new interpreters, which will allow in the long run to be able to get ahead of the market on wine producers, capable over time to acquire great value and credibility," explains Emanuel Paglicci, Chief Executive Officer of Wine Profit

The best performing wines of Tuscany

As for Tuscany, the situation is different in that the region is divided into several areas where, to date, Fine Wines are produced.

In the Bolgheri area we have: Sassicaia, which takes the lion's share, Ornellaia and Masseto, which are world-renowned Italian wines.
Further in the center of the region we find Montalcino, where labels such as Soldera, Biondi Santi and Casanova di Neri, for example, are being produced and are moving the market in an extraordinary way. In recent years, moreover, estates such as Marroneto are beginning to become true rarities, and this is causing the value of the wines to grow exponentially as a result of the great demand in the market.
Other great labels that can be purchased as investments are definitely the wines of Montevertine, especially, Pergole Torte, and a producer that has been consistently well positioned in international ratings for years is Bibi Graetz.

"The continued growth of the Italian Fine Wines market is an encouraging sign for our country and testifies to the exceptional quality of Made in Italy production, which is increasingly in demand and appreciated in the market," Paglicci concludes.
