Iodio in Rome

If words have weight, Iodio could only be a seafood restaurant. Opened just over a month ago by smart young guys, out of the center and out of the media circuits.
On the advice of a friend, we went to try this very recently opened Roman restaurant, totally focused on fish. It is located in a populous neighborhood well away from the tourist area, so the very young managers must rely solely on their own prowess and the resulting word of mouth.
Inside there is a single square room with seating forty or so; outside, for warm weather, a covered veranda for another twenty seats. Everything is bright and elegant, cured rustic mise en place, young and casual service that well disposes the visitor. To those of us who are oenophaniacs, the wine list appears tiny, but I think it is only fair to give it time to properly measure up with the local public and the current economic climate. Still, one can drink reasonably well. But on one thing be assured: you will eat well!
We started with a very fresh and varied plate of crudo and a cup of Luciana-style octopus. Then an herb risotto with raw shelled shrimp, where the cooking of the rice was to be solemnly commended. As a main course what for me was the dish of the day: roasted octopus tentacles with a side of cabbage and buttons of various mayonnaises and yogurt sauce. Finally, a nougat parfait and a pistachio creme.
As in all new openings there is always something to calibrate a little better, for example the desserts, but it is already very good as it is. Be warned, we went on a Sunday for lunch and it was fully booked, we recommend making reservations.
