Tonda, an excellent pizzeria in Rome

Tonda is a classic neighborhood pizzeria but one that uses top-quality prime ingredients that over the past seven years have made it a favorite spot for attentive and food-loving consumers.
For several years now, Rome has been experiencing an authentic food renaissance centering on pizza. This has resulted in the opening in the capital of pizzerias of famous Neapolitan pizza masters and gourmet evolutions following the path opened by Gabriele Boinci. There has also be a re-evaluation and revamping of the thin Roman-style pizza with the use of different types of dough as pioneered by Marco Luongo.
Here we will not get caught up in any history of pizza and what we mentioned above was only to illustrate how much pizza, or better
Although the economic crisis and subsequent one of consumer consumption more than likely played a role in this rebirth for pizza, in Rome it has also resulted in an incredible leap in quality, with the abandonment of old stereotypes and opening the door to a collective creative spirit unmatched in Italy.
In order to produce quality, modern pizzerias no long use cheap ingredients nor methods to ensure the dough rises quickly. Now they use distinctly superior quality ingredients (even for the flour), paying an almost maniacal attention to the period it takes for the dough to rise, which has increased significantly. All this to make a pizza that tastes better, is healthier and easier to digest. And this has made pizzerias a practical and more economical alternative to many restaurants, the average as well as costly ones.
In this framework, Tonda has been one of the more interesting pizzerias for the past seven years. It is your classic neighborhood with its wooden tables, chairs with straw seats, paper tablecloths and, when the weather permits, a few tables outside and people from different and distant parts of the city make a point of going there to try the pizza.
The pizzas have a nice, high crust that is soft yet crispy, with a dough that easily holds up the toppings, which are made with prime ingredients that are listed on a big blackboard on the wall. All the classic pizzas are offered as well as some truly innovative ones and they are very digestible with a selection of toppings to satisfy anyone’s whim. Also available are trapizzini (stuffed pizza pocket sandwiches) and fried delights as well as a lovely selection of bottled beers and a descent wine list, some of which are offered by the glass.
The service is friendly and informal and while the final bill may be slightly above average, it is totally justified by the quality of the food. Reservations are a must.
