Osteria Meleto is open

At the foot of Meleto Castle, in Gaiole in Chianti (SI), an agri-osteria opens in the place of the old furnace with Jonathan Rampi and Lara Valentini, former owners of La Casa del Buono in Terranuova Bracciolini (AR), at the helm.
A charming environment where you can enjoy, from 11 a.m. to late evening, traditional Tuscan dishes made with local products from short supply chains, sometimes "meter zero." This will be Osteria Meleto, open at the foot of the castle. Located in the old brick kiln that, in the past, was used to bake the bricks used to build most of Gaiole's farmhouses, the Osteria will offer a warm welcome, thanks to the guidance of Jonathan Rampi and Lara Valentini, former owners of La Casa del Buono in Terranuova Bracciolini (AR), the only Tuscan osteria to be included in the book Ostinati, which tells 15 stories of resilient innkeepers, Slow Food editions.
"Our choice was to select professionals in the sector who share with us the choice of enhancing Tuscan products with special attention to the environment. - Says Michele Contartese, general manager of Castello di Meleto - So we chose partners who are young and enthusiastic, as we are every day in our work." Alongside Jonathan Rampi in the kitchen are Lara Valentini and Alessio Corazzi in the dining room, all under 40.
"The innkeepers, the real ones, take care of the customer but also of the environment, choosing producers and products, preserving knowledge that would otherwise be lost, keeping alive the link with the territory and their community." So we read in the preface of the book Obstinate, and this is how Jonathan is described. A description that has many traits in common with the role of Castello di Meleto.
"We chose to embark on this new path, alongside La Casa del Buono, because with Castello di Meleto we share the philosophy, we care about the land and the local economy. - says Jonathan Rampi - We grow our own vegetable garden, we know our suppliers by name, all on Tuscan soil, we pay attention to the environment, so much so that ours is an Agri-hosteria."
Among the products of Castello di Meleto that will be used and enhanced in the kitchen: honey, extra virgin olive oil and, of course, wines.
Castello di Meleto is the only winery in Chianti Classico to own a perfectly preserved 13th-century castle, now a splendid accommodation facility. With an extension of more than a thousand hectares, on a hill in Gaiole in Chianti from where it watches over the surrounding woods and vineyards, Castello di Meleto is a perfect example of a complete farm: wine, first and foremost with Chianti Classico, is the flagship product, flanked by organic extra virgin olive oil, honey, and the breeding of Cinta Senese pigs.
