This has a strong garnet color and a very complex aroma with scents of dried fruits, tobacco, coffee and cacao along with fresh hints of citrus peel. The attack of the mouthfeel is soft and caramel-like but this is immediately balanced by flavors of small red fruits. The finish is fresh, balsamic, peppery and, despite an alcoholic content of 9.5%, extraordinarily drinkable. It classically pairs well with holiday cakes like panettone and panforte, as well as with sweets made with chocolate. We tried it with a beef pot roast and it was wonderful. Serve at 12-14°C, anything less would inhibit its extraordinary complexity.
